Vivienda unifamiliar en Ciudad Jardín_Gran Canaria
We were commissioned to carry out the full remodelling of a single-family home that had previously been designated a historical landmark by the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The house was designed in 1940 by the architect Miguel Martín Fernández de la Torre.
The house is located in Ciudad Jardín, a privileged neighbourhood in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where one can find a number of historic single-family houses with large gardens.
The exterior space
The property's large outdoor space allows light to enter from many directions. We carefully eliminated all the elements that had been added over the years in order to recover the original design and materials. This helped to create inviting views from the dwelling's interior.
The house is distributed on three floors. There is also a semi-basement that opens to a patio facing north. The constructed surface area is approximately 410m2, while the property's outdoor garden space measures some 250m2. The home combines the impressive volume and scale characteristic of rationalism with local and regional elements, such as quarried stone floors and columns and elaborately carved wood doors and windows, all of which contribute to making this property a stellar example of the architecture in the Canary Islands.
Light colours and clean lines make this house spacious and luminous in addition to highlighting many of the restored elements of the original dwelling. Without significantly altering the floor plan of 1940, openings were made in the interior walls of the ground and first floors in order to create more generous spaces. The design of the new areas, such as the kitchen, as well as the restoration of elements original to the home, were carried out in their entirety by our design team.
Furniture and carpentry
In order to restore various sections of the interior and exterior carpentry, we carefully analysed all the historical documents of the building and studied detailed sketches made by the architect in 1940, a task that we at Belevedere Capital consider essential to this kind of renovation.
